When love beckons to you, follow him,

Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you, yield to him,

Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

And when he speaks to you, believe in him,

Though his voice may shatter your dreams

as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you, so shall he crucify you.

Even as he is for your growth, so is he for your pruning.

Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches

that quiver in the sun,

So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

사랑이 그대를 손짓해 부르거든 그를 따르라.

그와 함께하는 길이 힘들고 가파르다 할지라도.

사랑의 날개가 그대를 감싸 안거든 몸을 내맡기어라.

날개 속에 숨어 있는 칼이 그대를 다치게 할지라도.

사랑이 그대에게 말을 걸거든 그의 말을 믿으라.

북풍이 정원을 황폐화시키듯 그의 목소리가 그대의 꿈을 산산조각 낸다 할지라도.

사랑의 그대에게 왕관을 쒸우지만 그대를 십자가에 못 박기도 하는 것.

사랑은 그대를 자라나게 하지만 그대의 가지를 잘라내기도 하는 것.

사랑은 그대 꼭대기 까지 올라가 햇빛에 떠는 그대의 가장 여린 가지들을 어루만지지만.

그대의 뿌리까지 내려가 대지에 달아붙은 그 뿌리를 흔들어대기도 하느니.
